School Timetable Software: Timetables. Clash-free.
Set up the year once — classes, subjects and teaching batches. Then build the week with AI fill, fix every clash before it goes live, and cover a teacher's leave in a minute.
What is school timetable software?
Every period. In its place.
School timetable software is where a school sets up its year — sessions, classes and sections, subjects and the teaching batches that teach them — and builds the weekly timetable on top. Inkwelly checks every period for clashes, won't publish a timetable until they're fixed, and lets you send a substitute for one day without touching the week.
Also called a timetable management system, school timetable maker or academic management software.

Why schools move from chart-paper timetables to timetable software
Chart paper. Erasers. Calls. Or one published week.
On paper, the timetable takes weeks every April, and every teacher's leave starts a round of calls. In Inkwelly the week is checked as you build it, and a substitute takes a minute.
How most schools do it today
A chart, an eraser and the staff WhatsApp group.
- The timetable is drawn on chart paper or in Excel, and redrawn every April
- Clashes — one teacher in two classes — turn up in the first week of school
- Electives and language groups are worked out by hand, section by section
- A teacher on leave means calls and messages to find who is free
- Students and parents get a photo of the printed timetable
With Inkwelly
Built once. Checked always. Live in the app.
- Classes, subjects and batches are set up once; AI fill drafts the week
- Every period is clash-checked, and publishing waits until all are fixed
- Streams, electives and a third language each get their own batch and rule
- Day changes show who is free, busy or on leave in that very period
- Students, parents and teachers see the published week in the Inkwelly app
Build the school timetable with AI fill and automatic clash checks
Build the week. Without a clash.
AI fill places each subject by its periods per week. Every period is checked against every other class — and the timetable can't be published until the last clash is fixed.
- 1AI fill the week
- 2Fix the one clash
- 3Publish — it's live
Sample class. AI fill uses Inkwelly AI (Premium plan); the editor and its clash checks work without it.
Arrange a substitute teacher for one day, from who's actually free
Teacher on leave? Covered in a minute.
Pick the date and the period. Inkwelly shows who is free, who is busy and who is on approved leave right then. Confirm, and the substitute sees it in their app — the weekly timetable stays as it is.
- 1Click the period
- 2Pick who's free
- 3Done — apps updated
Sample school, Friday 16 October. A day change can also cancel a period or add an extra class.

School timetable software: questions schools ask.
Partly — and you stay in charge. AI fill drafts a class's week: each subject batch gets its periods per week, spread across the days, in the empty periods only. You see the proposal and any clash before you apply it. You can also build by hand — click an empty cell to add a period, drag to move or swap. AI fill uses Inkwelly AI, part of the Premium plan.
Every period is checked as you place it: a teacher in two classes at once, the same students in two places, or a class with two periods in one slot. Clashes are marked on the grid, and a timetable can't be published until every one is fixed.
Open the timetable, switch to Day changes, pick the date and click the period. Inkwelly lists who is free, who is busy and who is on approved leave in that period. Pick a teacher, add a reason if you like, and confirm — it applies to that date only.
Yes. The substitute sees the period in their Inkwelly app, marked Substitution, and the class's students see who is taking it.
Yes. A day change can send a substitute, cancel a period or add an extra class for one date, with a reason. The weekly timetable doesn't change, and every change is listed under Changes.
The group that is actually taught a subject — usually one subject in one section, like Mathematics for Class 6-A — with its teacher and students. Electives and language groups get their own batches, so each student's timetable shows only their subjects.
With subject groups — a stream, a language group or an elective group, each with a rule: optional, exactly one, all required, or a range like 4–5 subjects. Students are then put in the batch of each subject they take.
Yes. Each subject can carry its board's code and official name — CBSE, ICSE, ISC, IB, Cambridge and 18 State Boards — with maximum and pass marks. Each class also has its medium of instruction.
Yes. The period template sets each weekday on its own, so Saturday can have four periods while Monday to Friday have eight. Assembly, breaks, lunch, zero period and remedial slots are built in, and AI can draft the template from one sentence.
Yes. Bulk create makes teaching batches for several subjects across several sections in one go — 7 subjects × 3 sections is 21 batches — with a teacher for each, and can put each section's students straight in.
Each session keeps its own classes, subjects, batches and timetable. You make the new session current when it begins; last year's stays on record.
Yes. Edit its periods any time, with the same clash checks. For a change on one date only, use Day changes, so the week stays as it is.
Yes. Teachers see the day's periods in the Inkwelly app and can open their whole week. In the portal, the timetable in-charge can open any teacher's week to check their load.
Yes, once it is published. The Timetable screen in the Inkwelly app shows the day and the week, the class on now and what's next — built from the subjects that student actually takes.
Yes. Preview shows a class's week as a table, with a Print button.
Yes, on plans with Inkwelly AI. Ask “period 3 me kaun free hai?”, “who has the most periods?” or “Class 6-A ka timetable PDF me” in English, Hindi or Hinglish. It can also arrange a substitute — after you approve.
Yes. Inkwelly works in English and Hindi.
Yes. We set up your classes, subjects and batches and load the timetable you already run — from your software, Excel or a printed chart — at no cost. Every period is checked for clashes before anything is saved.
Classes, sections and subjects are in every plan, from Lite at ₹49 per student per year. The timetable comes with Standard at ₹99, and AI fill with Premium at ₹199 (GST extra). Plans run ₹49–₹199 per student per year, with ₹0 migration, training and setup.
