February में, Lucknow के Class 9 CBSE school की principal apna office drawer खोलती हैं और 'shortage list' निकालती हैं — stapled set of A4 sheets जो head clerk हर month type करती हैं। Clerk ने 45 class registers से attendance percentages को एक Excel sheet में copy किया है, percentage से sort किया है, और 75% से नीचे हर student को red pen में circle किया है। 83 names। कुछ इस month पहली बार flag हुए हैं — उनके parents को school letterhead पर standard 'attendance shortage' letter जाएगा। कुछ तीन month से flag हो रहे हैं — principal को decide करना होगा कि क्या उन्हें board exam से bar करें।

Watchlist कैसे काम करती है
Watchlist वही daily attendance data के against run होती है जो class teacher हर सुबह mark करती हैं और head clerk monthly register पर review करती हैं। हर class के हर student के लिए, system running attendance percentage compute करता है — days present divided by working days till date in academic session, leave days included या excluded school configuration के अनुसार।
Jaise hi student की percentage school threshold (default 75%, school-configurable) से नीचे गिरती है, उसका नाम principal के dashboard पर watchlist पर appear हो जाता है। List percentage से ranked है, lowest first — most urgent cases top पर। हर row पर student का photo, name, class, current percentage, days absent vs working days, और trend arrow दिखते हैं। Up arrow (green) = last 7 days improving। Down arrow (red) = sliding। Flat dash = no change।
Har row के next to Contact Parent button है। Click करने पर side panel खुलता है parent का नाम, primary phone, secondary phone, last successful contact attempt, और 'mark contact made' action free-text remark के साथ। Principal अपने phone से call कर सकती हैं, फिर 'parent contacted' click करके remark 'Mrs. Sharma agreed to send Aarav daily, asked about home tuition' type कर सकती हैं। Audit log attempt record करता है। Student अगर दो weeks में 75% से ऊपर climb करे, row watchlist से drop off हो जाती है; अगर नहीं, row dark red हो जाती है और 'second contact' prompt appear होता है।
Head clerk का watchlist view थोड़ा different है — same students printable table format में दिखाता है 'last contact made by' और 'date' column के साथ। वो हर month के अंत में यह print करती हैं principal की record file के लिए। वही data office के 'attendance shortage letter' template को drive करता है जिसे parent meetings के लिए use किया जाता है — separate Excel sheet नहीं, manual percentage calculation नहीं, typo का chance नहीं।

पाँच real-world watchlist moments
1. October catch (Class 9 CBSE)। Principal October 1 watchlist पर तीन Class 9 students को 71-73% पर देखती हैं। वो same week parents को call करती हैं। दो students immediately regular attendance पर return करते हैं; एक का medical issue था और leave application retroactively file होती है। February तक तीनों 80% से ऊपर हैं और board-eligible हैं। Watchlist के बिना principal को February में पता चलता।
2. Class-wide pulse (Class 8 A)। Watchlist sidebar Class 8 A को 11 flagged students के साथ दिखाती है — school में highest। Principal class teacher को call करती हैं। Pata चलता है कि mid-September में maths teacher के transfer से teaching gap है; students maths bunk कर रहे थे और absence pattern cascade हो गया। School substitute assign करता है और next month catch-up sessions run करता है। Flagged count November तक चार हो जाती है।
3. Pre-board enforcement (December)। School Class 12 के लिए 1 December से stricter 80% threshold run करता है। Watchlist उस एक cohort के लिए 80% bar पर flip होती है जबकि बाक़ी सबके लिए 75% पर रहती है। Audit log threshold change reason 'pre-board cohort enforcement' के साथ record करता है। Shortage letter template Class 12 parents के लिए 80% language और बाक़ी के लिए 75% language auto-include करता है।
4. Leave-driven cases। तीन Class 7 students 72-74% पर watchlist पर appear होते हैं। Watchlist तीनों को 'leave-driven' mark करती है — ज़्यादातर absences approved medical leaves हैं, unexplained skips नहीं। Principal parents को call नहीं करती क्योंकि school context जानता है। Watchlist row visible रहती है (percentage board eligibility के लिए matter करता है) but contact prompt suppress होता है।
5. Affiliation renewal evidence। March में CBSE affiliation renewal के दौरान, board school से demonstrate करने को कहता है कि वो chronic absenteeism actively track करते हैं। School past तीन sessions का watchlist का audit log export करता है — हर flagged case, हर parent contact attempt, हर remark, हर resolution। Board documentary evidence के रूप में accept करता है और affiliation renewal तीन weeks में close होता है — तीन months में नहीं।

Limits, safety और the small print
Watchlist student को board exam से auto-bar नहीं करती। वो case surface करती है, हर parent-contact attempt log करती है, और documentation produce करती है जो school को chahiye — but bar करने की decision principal और board examination authority की है। Percentage और audit trail decision को support करते हैं; replace नहीं करते।
Threshold school-wide है unless segmented। Default में threshold हर student पर apply होता है। Schools जो per-cohort different thresholds chahiye (e.g., primary के लिए 75%, Class 12 के लिए 80%) named segments configure करते हैं — हर segment apna watchlist apne rule के साथ run करता है। Per-student thresholds intentionally allow नहीं करते क्योंकि वो inconsistency और audit-log challenges का door खोलता है disciplinary cases में।
Privacy। Watchlist principal, head clerk, academic head, और हर flagged student की class teacher को visible है — dusri class teachers को नहीं, किसी teacher को नहीं जो student को teach नहीं करता। Parents apne child का percentage और history parent app पर देखते हैं, watchlist कभी नहीं। Audit log admin-only है।
Late marking student को artificially flag कर सकती है। अगर class teacher पूरी class की आज की attendance mark करना भूल जाए, उस class के हर student को एक 'absent' day मिलता है marking correct होने तक। Watchlist हर save पर re-compute करती है, इसलिए corrected mark minutes में false positives drop करती है। Dashboard का marking-coverage card principal को missing marks वाली classes spot करने में help करता है — वो watchlist में leak होने से पहले।
Auto-removal threshold और re-flag। Flagged student threshold के ऊपर 14 consecutive working days के बाद watchlist से remove हो जाती है। अगर वो दोबारा dip करे, re-flag हो जाती है। 14-day buffer flicker prevent करता है (exactly 75% पर student हर day list पर bouncing से बचने के लिए)। Buffer per school configurable है।

क्या working days academic session start से count होते हैं या student की admission date से?
Student की admission date से। 18 August को admit हुए child का percentage 18 August onwards working days के against compute होता है, 1 April से नहीं। 12 December को transfer हुए child का denominator 12 December पर stop होता है। इसलिए mid-year admissions और exits false-positive shortage cases नहीं दिखाते।

क्या watchlist parents को automatically contact करती है (SMS, WhatsApp, IVR)?
No। Contact button parent का phone number surface करता है और attempt log करता है; school के behalf पर automated messages नहीं भेजता। Principal या head clerk apne phone से call करती हैं, फिर attempt remark के साथ log करती हैं। Hum deliberately parents को auto-message नहीं करते — real human voice conversation को वैसे change करती है जैसे automated message नहीं करती।
क्या leave-driven absences chronic के रूप में flag होती हैं?
Student watchlist पर रहती है जब तक percentage threshold से नीचे है, regardless of cause। But rows जहाँ ज़्यादातर absences approved leave applications से हैं *'leave-driven'* tag मिलता है, और contact-parent prompt suppress होता है। Principal case फिर भी देखती हैं but उसे unexplained-absence case से different treat करती हैं।
जब student का percentage threshold के ऊपर climb करे तो क्या होता है?
