NEW DELHI, May 18 — The Central Board of Secondary Education will open its post-result photocopy portal on Monday, May 19, with the fee for scanned answer sheets cut to Rs 100 from Rs 700 last year. The board has also said the full fee will be refunded if a student's marks rise after re-evaluation.

The timing matters. CBSE declared the Class 12 result on May 13 with an overall pass rate of 85.20 percent — about 12 percentage points lower than last year, and the gap has triggered open complaints from schools and parents about an on-screen marking glitch the board denies. Lower fees and a wider refund are how Delhi is trying to settle the row without conceding the marks themselves are wrong.

The re-evaluation window runs in three strict stages, in order. From May 19 to May 22, Class 12 students can pay Rs 100 per subject and download the scanned PDF of their answer sheet. From May 26 to May 29, they can apply for verification of the total marks, paying Rs 300 per subject — the standard check that the marks of every question were added correctly. From May 31 to June 5, students who have already paid for the photocopy can apply for re-evaluation of specific questions, at Rs 25 per question. "If marks increase after revaluation, the entire fee paid by the student would be refunded," the board said in a notice on its website. No stage can be skipped. A student who wants the third stage must first clear the first two.

This is the second post-result concession in two weeks. After the result-day marks row over on-screen marking, the board first cut the photocopy fee from Rs 700 to Rs 100, then expanded the refund rule from re-evaluation alone to the entire fee chain. State boards have already shaped expectations — Chhattisgarh's CGBSE re-evaluation window closed last week after a 13-day run at Rs 300 per subject.

For most school offices, the next pressure point is colleges. Delhi University's CSAS admission cycle opens in early June, and the verification stage finishes May 29 — three days before. For students whose re-evaluation runs into June, parents are already calling principals to ask whether a corrected mark will reach a college admissions office in time.
