CBSE slashes Class 12 re-evaluation fees by up to 85 percent refund if marks rise
The Central Board of Secondary Education has opened the Class 12 answer-sheet photocopy window until May 22 and cut post-result fees by up to 85 percent, promising a full refund to any student whose marks increase after re-evaluation.

NEW DELHI, May 21 — The Central Board of Secondary Education has cut the cost of challenging a Class 12 result by up to 85 percent and opened the answer-sheet photocopy window until May 22. A scanned answer book now costs Rs 100, down from Rs 700, and any student whose marks rise after re-evaluation gets a full refund.
For lakhs of students who sat the Class 12 exams and saw their results on May 13, the price of a second look has long been a barrier — checking a single subject could cost more than a week's coaching. The board's new fee card lowers that barrier sharply, and school examination cells now field the applications and walk families through a three-step window.
Under the revised structure, verification of marks falls to Rs 100 from Rs 500, and re-evaluation drops to Rs 25 a question from Rs 100. Photocopy applications run from May 19 to May 22 on the board's rechecking portal; verification of any issues spotted in the scanned script follows from May 26 to 29. CBSE said on its official channel on May 17 that students whose marks increase after re-evaluation will receive a full refund of the fee — a first for the board. The Class 12 results, declared on May 13, recorded an overall pass rate of 85.20 percent, with girls at 88.86 percent ahead of boys at 82.13 percent. Schools route every photocopy and re-evaluation request through their examination login, so the office, not the parent, carries the deadline.
The fee cut extends a post-result push that began when the re-evaluation portal opened on May 19 at the lower rate. It lands in the same fortnight the board faced questions over result-day portal glitches, and it follows a wider pattern of CBSE trimming charges that families had quietly absorbed for years.
For students who must clear a subject, the supplementary exam falls on July 15, with the List of Candidates opening June 2. For now, the photocopy window is the immediate clock — it closes at 11:59 pm on May 22, and the verification stage opens four days later.
