CBSE Class 12 result lands in the third week of May

CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj said on April 29 that Class 12 results will release in the third week of May. The new On-Screen Marking system is running 'better than the previous evaluation' — the glitch reports, he said, are 'far away from facts'.

On the evening of April 29, while ICSE and ISC students were a day away from their result, the CBSE Controller of Examinations sat for a press call to address one rumour — that the new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system had crashed mid-evaluation and that Class 12 results would slip into June. He called the report 'far away from facts'. The result, he said, lands in the third week of May. The Class 10 result has already been out since April 15.

What CBSE actually said

Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, told reporters that 'evaluation is going very perfectly, better than the previous evaluation'. The OSM system is the first full-scale rollout for Class 12 — every answer book is scanned and marked on a screen instead of paper. The Controller noted that teachers were 'sending me selfies, photographs and messages thanking us'. Schools running examination workflows should expect a 48-hour notice before the Class 12 result link goes live, with a window between May 13 and May 20 the most likely landing zone.

What this changes for your school

If your school has Class 12 students, the next two weeks decide three operational tasks — your topper PR rollout, your compartmental candidate plan, and your university-application advisory queue. Office staff need every Class 12 marksheet PDF ready in DigiLocker the same hour the result lands. Have your principal's pre-recorded congratulation video ready by May 12, your compartmental fee structure published, and your stream-counsellor calendar open. The schools that publish a topper list within two hours win the WhatsApp share — make sure your exam results data lock-down is signed off before result day so one wrong roll number does not go public.

What to watch next

The compartmental exam window for Class 12 typically opens within a fortnight of the main result, and the make-up exam falls in the second week of July. Schools that pre-register their compartmental list within 72 hours of the result avoid the late-fee penalty CBSE quietly raised this year. The 2027-28 affiliation cycle on SARAS 7.0 is also open — a strong Class 12 cohort number is the easiest way to ace the panel inspection.

Frequently asked

3 questions
When exactly will the CBSE Class 12 result land?

CBSE has officially indicated the third week of May 2026 — most likely between May 13 and May 20. The board does not pre-announce the exact date; it issues a 24–48 hour notice via cbse.gov.in, the official social handles and the press wire. Schools should monitor official handles rather than aggregator portals, several of which have posted false dates this month.

Will OSM cause the result to be different from a paper-marked result?

No. OSM is a digital surface for the same answer book and the same marking scheme; the evaluator is still a CBSE-empanelled teacher. Where it changes things is internal — fewer transit errors, faster cross-tabulation and a faster re-evaluation cycle. CBSE has run OSM at scale for Class 10 last year and reports zero scoring divergence.

Should schools prep DigiLocker access ahead of the result?

Yes. Most parents discover DigiLocker only on result day, then struggle with OTP and Aadhaar linkage at the worst possible moment. Send a one-paragraph WhatsApp to all Class 12 parents this week — install the UMANG or DigiLocker app, log in once, and confirm. The five minutes you save them on result day is the lasting impression.
