RAIPUR, May 5 — The online admission window for Chhattisgarh's Swami Atmanand Government English Medium Schools closes at 11:59 PM on Monday, with the state's School Education Department running a lottery for over-subscribed seats from May 6 to May 10. Selected children will join classrooms from May 11, ahead of the new academic session.
The Swami Atmanand network is the state's flagship free English-medium programme. More than 700 schools run it from Class 1 through Class 12, with Class 1 admissions limited to children aged five years six months to six years six months. Demand routinely runs three to five times the available seats in district headquarters; most schools will hand the call over to a computerised lottery on Tuesday.
The form opened on April 10 and ran a three-week intake. Per the official cgschool.in portal, parents apply with the child's birth certificate, address proof and a recent photograph; seats are reserved by class, by school and by category, with reserved-category blocks running parallel to general lists. The School Education Department's circular states that the lottery will be conducted transparently, in front of parent representatives where possible, and the result displayed at the school gate by 5 PM on the day of the draw. Verification of allotted seats runs May 11 to 15. Schools where applications fall short of available seats will admit every applicant directly without a lottery, the same circular says.
The Atmanand drive sits inside the state's wider push to keep private school costs in check — Chhattisgarh's school education department capped private school fee hikes at 8 percent earlier this month and ordered three years of fee disclosures from non-aided private schools. For families priced out of private English-medium fees, the Atmanand lottery is increasingly the only door open.
Lottery results will be uploaded to cgschool.in on a rolling basis from May 6; allotted parents must complete document verification and physical confirmation at the allotted school by May 15, or the seat is forfeited. Schools that finish lotteries early are allowed to publish vacancy lists for a second round.

Frequently asked
2 questionsWho is eligible to apply for Swami Atmanand Class 1 admission this cycle?
Children aged five years six months to six years six months as on the cut-off date qualify for Class 1, per the School Education Department's circular. Other classes follow the standard age-grade norm. The cgschool.in portal shows the eligible age band for each class at the time of form filling.
What happens if a parent misses the May 5 application deadline?
There is no statewide reopen for the first round. If a Swami Atmanand school finishes the lottery with vacant seats, the principal can call a second round and re-open applications for those seats — this is school-by-school. Most district-headquarter schools will fill in round one.
