Inkwelly vs Edumarshal. What actually changes if you move.
Edumarshal is a long-established Indian school ERP with a broad module list, and plenty of schools run it perfectly well. This page is for the ones who don't — and it's honest about where staying put is the right answer.
- Go-live
- Next working day
- Price
- ₹49–₹199 per student per year
- Migration
- ₹0 — we do the extraction
- Pilot
- 90 days, pro-rata refund
Why schools look elsewhere
The complaint we hear most often isn't about missing features. It's that the features exist and nobody uses them. A module the office opens once a term is a module the school is paying for and not getting value from, and that pattern shows up across a lot of long-established ERPs — not just this one.
The second thing schools raise is parent communication. Parents in India are on WhatsApp. If fee reminders, absence alerts and result notifications go out as SMS, a meaningful share are never read, and the office ends up on the phone anyway — which is the work the software was bought to remove.
Side by side
| Inkwelly | Edumarshal | |
|---|---|---|
| Parent messaging | WhatsApp first, on Meta-approved templates, with SMS fallback on every message | SMS-led; WhatsApp availability varies by plan and add-on |
| Pricing model | ₹49–₹199 per student per year, flat at any size, every module included | Quoted per school; module and user add-ons are common |
| Go-live | Next working day | Typically a multi-week implementation cycle |
| Migration | ₹0 — we do the extraction and cleaning | Usually a paid implementation line item |
| Exit | Full export in standard formats on request, at any time | Export terms vary by contract — worth reading before you sign |
| Hosting | AWS Mumbai, daily encrypted backups | Cloud and on-premise options |
Where Edumarshal is the better choice: if you need on-premise hosting because of a trust policy or a genuinely unreliable connection, that's a real requirement and we don't meet it. Inkwelly is cloud-only. If your school already runs Edumarshal well and your teachers are in it daily, switching costs you more than it gains.
What changes in the first week
- Parents start getting fee reminders, absence alerts and results on WhatsApp instead of SMS they don't open.
- Teachers mark a class in under a minute on their own phone, in Hindi or your regional language.
- The office stops reconciling payments by hand — UPI, Razorpay, PayU, Paytm and Cashfree land against the right invoice automatically.
- You can see the day's collection, absentees and defaulters without asking anyone to prepare a report.
How the move works
We export from Edumarshal — students, parents, fee ledgers, marks, attendance, staff. If the export is awkward or the vendor is slow, we work from whatever you can get: Excel dumps, printed registers, PDF report cards. Getting your data out is a one-time effort and it's ours, not yours.
That data goes into a staging school you can log into and check before anything is live. You approve it. Then you pick a go-live date — and it can be the next working day, because we don't require months of running both systems side by side.
Frequently asked
What does Inkwelly cost?
₹49–₹199 per student per year, flat at any school size — no enrolment slabs and no per-module upsell. A 500-student school on the middle plan is about ₹49,500 a year. Migration, training and setup are ₹0. The only external costs are WhatsApp message fees and your payment gateway's transaction charge, both billed at cost.
How quickly can we go live?
Go-live can be the next working day. You pick the date; we don't need months of parallel running to get there. Bringing across years of historical records — old marks, past fee ledgers, archived certificates — runs on its own track afterwards and doesn't hold up day one.
Can we try it before committing?
90-day paid pilot on your real data. If it isn't working at day 90, pro-rata refund and your data back in standard formats. We don't offer a free trial on dummy data — it proves nothing to either of us. The pilot runs on your real students, your real fees.
We're mid-session. Should we wait until April?
Not necessarily. The clean break is the 1st of a month, and most schools move at a term boundary because it's tidy for fee cycles — but there's nothing structural stopping a mid-session move. Your historical records come across either way.
Will Edumarshal give us our data?
Usually, yes — most vendors do, though it can take chasing. If it stalls, we don't wait: we rebuild from Excel exports, your accounts system, and printed records. We've done it that way before and it works.
Our teachers aren't confident with software. Will they actually use it?
The teacher app does one thing well — attendance and marks, in under a minute a class, on any Android phone, in Hindi or your regional language. We do a full day of on-site training at go-live and stay on WhatsApp through the first month. If a teacher is still struggling after that, we come back at no cost.
Where is our data, and can we get it out?
Hosted on AWS Mumbai. Daily encrypted backups, role-based access, and a full export in standard formats whenever you ask — including on the way out.
